Help Glebelands double in size with the Land Army - Thurs May 17
Glebelands City Growers, our most local veg suppliers, are almost doubling their size! Here’s more…..
The four-person co-op has joined up with one of our other growers, Tom Rigby, who farms just 2 miles away from our own land at Glazebury. He runs a mixed organic farm, and in his crop rotation, some of his fields are currently left unused when not used for grazing.
So, Glebelands are taking on an acre of this land! Their first crop will be brussell sprouts, which they’ve planned with other local growers to make sure they’ll all be growing different things, filling gaps in the supply of local organic veg without competing with each other. As they’re so close to Moss Brook Growers on our land, there’s also the potential to combine deliveries and share equipment and expertise. They’re just starting out on this site, running it at the same time as their market garden in Sale, so it’s all a bit of an experiment, but we think it’s a great move!
Here’s how you can help…..
Greater Manchester Land Army are taking a minibus full of willing volunteers to help Glebelands plant up this new crop on Thursday May 17th. Transport will be provided from Hulme, leaving at 9.30 and returning by 5pm. Lunch, tools and gloves will be provided. Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help.
