Veg News 13th November
Although we have lost a couple of UK lines this week to Europe (notably broccoli and lettuces), there's still plenty of hearty British veg around. Purple sprouting broccoli (from Yorkshire and Cornwall) becomes more plentiful as the months get colder....and it has edible leaves and stalks too (slice it thick).
Swedes, turnips, leeks and parsnips are all good for stews and broths. We have 3 or 4 varieties of kale, again a good staple as we head into winter, along with brussels sprouts, loose and still on the stalk, with the tops.
Not forgetting potatoes to suit all tastes and purposes- check out the potato blackboard in the shop to find out which varieties suit your needs best.
I know it's been mentioned a lot lately but we still have a fantastic range of UK apples and pears.
