Bagthorpe FArm

Bagthorpe FarmBagthorpe Farm, run by Donald Moreton, supplies us with potatoes, parsnips, beetroot, red onions and more.

The farm is located in North West Norfolk, next to Sandringham, from whom they rent 100 acres of land, all under organic cultivation. The soil is sandy and stony, gently undulating, and includes 18 different woods and lots of hedges, so providing plenty of wildlife habitat.

The farm began its conversion to organic cultivation back in 1986. Keen to get off the treadmill of heavy pesticide and fertiliser use (they were using 65 different chemicals!!) the Moretons decided to let nature take the strain. With a growing market (and under-supply) they saw the massive potential for organic production, and also recognised that growing organically was a great way to increase employment in the area - they now have 6 fulltime staff plus upto 20 seasonal English and Eastern European employees.

Concentrating on non-supermarket customers, most of Bagthorpe Farm’s produce ends up at box schemes, wholesalers, farmers markets and independent shops like us.
