Pukka Herbal Teas

More than just a tea! Fairness and sustainability are at the core of Pukka Herbal Teas, which grew out of a wish to make Ayurveda accessible to everyone. Developed in India over the past 3,000 years, Ayurveda means ‘knowledge of life.’ It’s Pukka Vanilla Chaian ancient holistic philosophy about how to live a healthy, wholesome and more fulfilled life by balancing mind, body and spirit. At the heart of the teaching is a profound respect for nature and a humble appreciation for the magic of life.

The founders of Pukka tea believed that herbal tea and health supplements could bring some value to forests threatened by farming. Pukka pays growers and collectors above market prices for herbs to help protect dwindling ecosystems, which makes organic farming practices worth more than soil-destroying conventional methods. The company collects herbs from all over and blend carefully to maximise goodness and taste.

Pukka are Fairtrade-certifiedand work with projects in India, China, Vietnam, South Africa, Uganda and Egypt. They developed a scheme called FairWild, like Fairtrade but specifically for ingredients collected from the wild. The FairWild logo guarantees that collectors are paid fairly for their work and wild plants are harvested sustainably.

For instance, instead of digging up a whole area of wild plants, collectors have an added incentive to leave some of the population to mature and naturally regenerate. To reflect and respect the extra effort and time that sustainable herb collection requires,FairWild collectors receive a premium price. As with Fairtrade, the FairWild‘premium’goes toward social and environmental projects for the collectors’ local communitoes. These conservation-based practices help secure the long-term survival of plant species and habitats, along with the cultures and livelihoods of local communities. Pukka are currently working with FairWild growers in india, Kazakhstan, Hungary, Spain and Bosnia.
