W. Dennis & Sons is a family business founded in 1870 by the noted agriculturist William Dennis, together with his five sons. The business consists of two estates, one of which is Woodlands Farm at Kirton, Boston, farmed by Andrew Dennis. Woodlands Farm is located in what is recognized as some of the most fertile land in Europe, and consists of 1700 acres of grade 1 silt ideal for growing brassicas and cereal. Organic farming relies heavily on the health and quality of the soil and the balance of available nutrients, and at Woodlands their own farm manure is used to return nutrients back to the soil. The decision to convert to organic farming was made in 1996 for philosophical and environmental reasons, and the land has been converted in stages to allow everyone concerned to build up their skills gradually. In 2004, the Dennis family won the Soil Association’s Organic Producer of the Year award.
Dennis sell mostly to supermarkets, which sees their produce taking 4 days at the earliest to reach the depot, and another 3 to reach the supermarket shelves. The same produce is with us in just 2 days, making it heaps fresher and tastier.
